Salford hold Tranmere to a draw at Prenton Park

Tranmere hosted Salford City at Prenton Park for a 12:30 kick-off this afternoon.

Tranmere will have been looking to end their disappointing recent run; the team hasn’t won in it’s previous six games. Before today’s fixture, Tranmere sat at 5th position in League 2.

Salford were at 10th position, just four points away from the play-off positions, so both teams have everything to play for.

Tranmere and Salford shared the points following a 0-0 draw at Prenton Park this afternoon. Tranmere fans will have been hoping to take all three points, following their recent lacklustre performances.

Neither team seemed to really get into the flow of things until Tranmere had a brief spot during the second half where they teased that they might return to their winning ways, but the spell fizzled out without any real sparkle. Ian Henderson had Salford’s best chance but his 16th-minute header was saved by Tranmere keeper, Joe Murphy.

Tranmere have now not won in seven games and fans’ frustrations are spilling out on social media.

At 61 minutes, Paul Lewis’ half volley attempt hit the crossbar. Shortly afterwards, Danny Lloyd nearly capitalised on Ash Eastham’s carelessness but dailed to make it count/

James Vaughan came on at 67 minutes for his second game since knee surgery. He wasn’t quite his usual self and clearly needs a bit more time to recuperate. Still, he did make his mark felt on-field.

Tranmere have now failed to score for three games on the trot but they are clinging on to their automatic promotion hopes by the skin of their teeth.

Tranmere visit Bradford City on Tuesday 20 April for a 7pm kick-off in their next League 2 game.

Matt Hibbert’s thoughts…

Another terrible performance, we are so completely void of any energy, confidence and quality at the minute it’s scary.

We look a complete shell of the team from just a few months ago, that’s 1 win in 9, 7 without a win, and 2 goals in our last 6, relegation form if we’re being honest.
