The Merseyside Police community policing team have been in Liscard and Wallasey this week to carry out a proactive policing operation to stamp out crime and anti-social behaviour as part of Operation Shepherrd.
Operation Shepherd is the annual Merseyside Police campaign to reduce crime and keep communities safe during the festive period.
During the week, police have been patrolling Liscard town centre and Central Park to disrupt criminality and protect those living in the area.
Officers arrested a 54-year-old man on Tuesday 29 November on suspicion of a public order offence after it was reported to us by local business owners in Liscard Village.
Supporting local stores and businesses has been an important theme of the week and officers have been speaking with several shop owners to help them complete Business Security Assessments.
As part of Operation Shepherd, these checks provide business owners with crime prevention advice as we progress into this busy festive season.
There were two further arrests made on Wednesday 30 November after a pedal bike was reportedly stolen from the Liscard area. The suspected stolen bike was spotted by officers outside a cash converters and a 36-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of theft. The bike was then returned to the owner.
We are also working with Wirral Council Community Patrol and Youth Outreach to prevent anti-social behaviour.
Sergeant Haydn Ward of Merseyside Police said, “We will always provide reassurance and support to our communities and businesses in Liscard and Wallasey, but this is particularly important around this time of year.
“Historically, we have seen a rise in crimes such as burglary, robbery, domestic violence, and drink or drug driving so it’s normal that people will see an increased police presence at this time.
“Operation Shepherd will provide crime prevention advice, extra patrols and high visibility activity over the next month and I hope this additional activity will reassure people that they are able to enjoy the festive season.”
Look out for each other this Christmas and report crimes or suspicious behaviour to Merseyside Police via @MerPolCC, 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency always call 999.
