‘Pride on the Wirral’ is set to take place in New Brighton on Saturday 12 August, returning following its successful inaugural event last year.
Last year, the organisers brought Pride to Wirral for the first time and they had great success, exceeding expectations and receiving great feedback from the local community.
This year, the Pride Market area has more than doubled in size, and the organisers have secured a road closure and will have a small stage.
The volunteers, performers, event organisers, and management team provide their time and effort for free which demonstrates the amazing talent and commitment within our local community.
All this helps keep the organisers’ pledge that the event will always remain free to attend, regardless of how big it may grow.
Jamie, founder and director of New Brighton Pride, said, It’s going to be bigger and better this year. We’ve hired out the whole of The Floral Pavilion this time, so we’ve got loads more stalls.
“The big thing that we have this year is a proper stage. Last year we just used the balcony which worked for our first year, but it wasn’t ideal for our acts so this year we’ve got a proper stage. It’s really exciting
“Last year was spectacular I was having nightmares that only 20 people were going to turn up but when we had the muster, I couldn’t find my words because there were that many people there. It was such an emotional day.
“So, I’m expecting a lot of people to attend this year because last year we showed what we could do with barely any money or time.
“The event is all run by volunteers we’re a non for profit we don’t make any money from Pride and any money that is made from people booking a stall goes straight back into the event.
“Earlier this year we were shortlisted for the LCR pride awards which for a first time event was very exciting!”
