Tranmere visited Stevenage yesterday afternoon for a 3pm kick-off in their latest game of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of the game, reflecting on Monday’s victory over Exeter, Micky Mellon said, “It was a big win for us, any wins at this time of the season are huge because you’re coming to the end of the season and you know the value of the victory the closer you get to the end of it.
“It was huge and it should be from game 1 to game 46, every game for Tranmere should be a must win. So I didn’t think it was any more important than any other ones but certainly you saw the value you in the way we celebrated it, because you see the size of the prize the closer you get to the end of the season.
“Obviously against a team like Exeter who have been riding very high and would’ve probably gone top, it’s a good shot in the arm for everybody.

Match Report: Stevenage v Tranmere Rovers
Tranmere’s performance at Stevenage was a major disappointment for the travelling fans, but no real surprise given the team’s away form.
Two goals from Luke Norris, one each side of half time, were enough to seal victory for Stevenage and all-but secure their League Two survival.
After a quiet opening quarter, Stevenage opened the scoring at 23 minutes. Josh Hawkes’ outstretched arm was hit by the ball from a cross from Luther James-Wildin. Luke Norris firmly netted the resulting penalty into the top right corner past Ross Doohan.
Tranmere stepped up a gear after the break and were the livelier of the two sides. However, Rovers rarely threatened and there were continual Stevenage attempts at goal.
Norris doubled the Stevenage lead at 67 minutes, with a no-frills header header from the centre of the box to the top left corner from a perfect Ben Coker cross.
Tranmere’s away from has been dreadful all season and this performance was no different.

I’m not Mellon out unless there’s anyone better we can bring in. However: 1 win in 7. 4 away wins all season. Lowest number of goals scored in the top half. Lost 6 of the last 8 away games. Consistently setting up to draw. It’s completely unacceptable. #TRFC— Zak Hayes (@ZakHayes6) April 23, 2022

Just arrived home. That performance was spineless today, 1-11 not good enough. Players in the first half scared to go over the halfway line, what’s that all about.Maynard got in the right positions when he come on, but looked like he had wooden legs…#trfc #swa— Tranmere Crohnie (@TranmereCrohnie) April 23, 2022

That’s another fine mess you got me into Mellon 😩🙁 don’t sugarcoat it we looked like the team in the relegation mire : Heartless, toothless etc I could go on, #nodirection #SWA #TRFC ⚽️— Martin Ellis (@TheSmartRover) April 23, 2022

I'm still "Micky in" The home form has been excellent, but this Jekyll & Hyde team is ridiculous. If it continues into next season then MM won't have addressed it & changes will then have to be made #TRFC #SWA— Pete B 🇪🇺 🇺🇦 (@happytyskie) April 23, 2022
