PLAY surprises one millionth passenger with a lifetime of free PLAY flights

PLAY, the low-cost Icelandic airline, surprised its one-millionth passenger with an ultimate “Golden Ticket“ entitling them to a lifetime of free PLAY flights.

The lucky winner, Ikechi Chima Apakama, was met with a surprise celebratory party as he and his two friends arrived at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, following his flight from Liverpool John Lennon airport on 17 February 2023.

The crew began the celebrations after takeoff in Liverpool, announcing to passengers that this was a milestone flight carrying PLAY‘s one-millionth passenger, with the winner due to be revealed upon landing.

All passengers were greeted with gift bags, prosecco, and cakes to mark the occasion.

Alongside free PLAY flights for life, Ikechi also received a coat and hat from well-known Icelandic brand, Cintamani, to use on all his upcoming adventures.

Ikechi and his travel companions then travelled on to their destination from Keflavik Airport in style, with a Cadillac full of treats and goodies to enjoy whilst spotting the billboards around Iceland welcoming and congratulating Ikechi on his victory.

PLAY’s CEO Birgir Jónsson commented, “I want to thank each one of the one million guests who chose to fly with PLAY and the PLAY team for delivering our award-winning service. Reaching one million passengers is a huge milestone for a new airline that only 18 months ago was facing a global pandemic and unprecedented travel restrictions. While I’m sure this is a big deal for Mr Apakama, it’s a huge moment for PLAY.”

PLAY carried 800,000 passengers in 2022 and expects passengers to be 1.5 – 1.7 million in 2023.
