Person rescued from water following reports of ‘someone in distress’ at New Ferry

Firefighters and the Marine Fire One Rescue Boat crew were called to an incident resulting in a water rescue this morning at River Park, New Ferry.

Three fire engines, the Search and Rescue Team and Marine Fire One were in attendance, on scene at 5.04 am.

After reports of someone in distress, crews liaised with Police and Coastguard colleagues at the scene while Marine Fire One conducted a search of the river. A person was located quickly on a structure above the water and subsequently entered the water.

Marine Fire One immediately went to their rescue and brought the casualty aboard the rescue boat. The casualty was conscious and breathing and was brought ashore to an ambulance to be assessed by NWAS paramedics.

Crews were at the scene until 5.52am.
