Pensioner assaulted and robbed in Vauxhall

Merseyside Police has issued a CCTV image of a man we want to speak to after a pensioner was assaulted and robbed in Vauxhall.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was on Eldonian Way, at around 3.10pm on Saturday 10 September when a male offender tried to snatch her handbag. The woman tried to pull it back and the man continued to pull on it aggressively.

The force of the struggle caused the woman to fall to the floor and hit her head. The male then made off with the handbag in the direction of Vauxhall Road.

The woman suffered cuts and bruising and was left very shaken by her ordeal.

CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out in the local area and an investigation is underway.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said, “Thankfully the woman was not seriously hurt but has been left very shaken her ordeal.

“We would ask the public’s help in identifying the man in the CCTV image as we believe that he could have information which is important to our investigation.

“It is vital that we find the person responsible for this and bring them to justice.”

Anyone who recognises the man or has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact @CrimestoppersUK on 0800  555 111 quoting reference 22000677328.
