Nineteen beautiful gardens will open to the public on Sunday, May 14, 2023 as part of the annual Secret Gardens of Oxton.
The popular event, which attracted 5,000 visitors last year, offers a well-signposted trail where people can see what lies behind some of the conservation area’s sandstone walls.
Open between 10am and 5pm, there will also be an array of entertainment in the village including local musicians and singers, craft and food stalls, plant sales, homemade cakes, children’s activities, and a treasure hunt.
Organiser Kirsty Cotton said, “The Secret Gardens of Oxton started in 2001 and has gone from strength to strength ever since; raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity and showcasing what a fabulous community Oxton is.
“It’s a great fun day out for all of the family to enjoy, not just garden lovers, and as this year’s event takes place the day after Liverpool hosts the final of the Eurovision Song Contest, it promises to cap off a fantastic week for the region.”
A gala raffle features dozens of prizes donated by local businesses including a top prize of a £300 voucher from Oxton family-owned Bogans Carpets & Flooring Superstores. All money raised will be divided between the Oxton Society and the three local charities that will be assisting on the day – Birkenhead Youth Club, Terral Morgan Memorial Fund and Sundowns.
Advance tickets priced £8 (£10 on the day) are on sale in Greens, Drawing Room, Oxton Boutique, The Library, The Conservative Club, and Stirling Wines in Oxton as well as the Williamson Art Gallery, Homebird in Heswall, and Brennan Ayre O’Neill in Bromborough and Prenton. Tickets can also be purchased at www.theoxtonsociety.co.uk and collected on the day.
