A by-election is taking place in Oxton on Thursday 25 November to elect a new councillor for the ward.
Voters have a range of options for casting their ballot for the by-election – it can be in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. COVID-19 safe measures are in place to help voters, vote safely too.
Those who are eligible to vote will receive their polling card by Friday 29 October 2021. Residents who have not received a polling card by this date can check they are on the electoral register by contacting the helpline number below.
Voting will take place between 7am – 10pm on Thursday 25 November 2021. The votes will be verified and counted that evening and a councillor for the ward will be elected on Thursday 25 November 2021.

At the polling station you can expect many of the measures you have become used to in shops and banks over recent months, such as wearing a face covering, social distancing, use of hand sanitiser and floor markings.
And, while arrangements are in place to help you stay safe while casting your vote, there are several ways that you can vote; in person, at a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone you trust to vote on your behalf, which is known as a proxy vote.
If you are thinking about voting by post or by proxy, please apply early to make sure your application is processed as soon as possible.
