Over 100 to take part in Wirral Kayak Challenge

The 9th Annual Wirral Kayak Challenge event will take place on Sunday 10 July 2022. Over 100 participants will be kayaking and paddleboarding their way around the Wirral coast.

The event raised over £13,500 last year and this year’s supported charities are Claire House Children’s Hospice, Merseyside and Cheshire Blood Bikes, and Teenage Cancer Trust.

The event starts from Harrison Drive beach, near the Derby Pool pub, and will leave around 9am, heading into the Irish Sea towards Hilbre Island. They aim to reach Hilbre before 12 noon.

Whilst at Hilbre, the tide will go out, meaning that the participants must wait for about three-and-a-half hours for the tide to come back in.

Their destination is the Dee Sailing Club at Thurstaston, where they expect to arrive from around 4pm.

The participants will be greeted by two live bands and magicians and the organisers are hosting a BBQ.
