Off the Ground Theatre returns with Accidental Death of an Anarchist

Following the success of The Drunks and Joseph K, West Kirby based Off the Ground Theatre returns to The Hope Street Theatre with another dark comic classic for audiences to enjoy.

Accidental Death of an Anarchist is one of Dario Fo’s best-known, most celebrated works, taking a look at the machinations and pitfalls of modern policing, holding up satirical parallels with journalism and justice, and drawing attention to the pitiable downfall of prolifically dire politicians.

Based on the 1969 Piazza Fontana bombing in Milan, and the subsequent death of a man in custody, the play follows a quick-witted and tricky fellow, known only as ‘The Maniac’, as they manipulate, confuse and outwit the local police force through a variety of sinister yet hilarious disguises, tricks and misdirections.

It is a play that is as starkly appropriate to the misdemeanours and malpractice of today’s police as it was in the 1970s, taking aim at incompetency and idiocy.

Tickets are on sale now for this fast-paced and quicker-witted show, at The Hope Street Theatre in Liverpool. This production will be the latest in a series of shows brought to the theatre, following on from Moth, The Drunks, Joseph K, and more.

Founded in 1994, Off the Ground Theatre has been creating theatre for audiences of the UK and wider Europe for nearly 30 years. From Shakespeare to Terry Pratchett, the stories have evolved and been presented in numerous forms.

Based in Wirral, its tours have included such swashbuckling tales as Sinbad, Around the World in 80 Days, Zorro and The Musketeers, played to audiences across the UK and Ireland.

Off the Ground Theatre champions access to drama and theatre for young people, often promoting from within their own youth theatre set up to their professional company, or seeking local emerging talent from other programmes of excellence, such as Cronton 6th Form College’s Professional Theatre Programme, Young Everyman and Playhouse, LIPA, Liverpool John Moore’s University, The Hammond, and many more.

Pre-booking from www.hopestreettheatre.com is strongly advised, as tickets are limited. Some may be available on the door.
