New Post Office to open in Birkenhead town centre

The Post Office is to re-open Birkenhead Post Office at a new location – 6 Princes Pavement, Grange Precinct, Birkenhead, CH41 2XY.

Birkenhead Post Office is due to open on Thursday 11 November. This will restore service to the town centre.

We are pleased to be able to reinstate the service as a temporary Post Office service. We also have an interested applicant for a permanent solution.

WHSmith made the difficult decision to close its store at 37 Borough Pavement, The Grange Precinct Shopping Centre, Birkenhead, CH41 2XX, where Birkenhead Post Office was based, in June.

The premises at 6 Princes Pavement, which was the former William Hill bookmakers shop, is currently empty.

The opening hours will be Monday to Friday: 9am – 5.30pm; Saturday: 9am – 12 noon.

Karl Haddon, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said, “We are delighted to be restoring Post Office services to central Birkenhead as we know how important a Post Office is to residents and businesses.”

In the interim, there are alternative branches at Birkenhead Hamilton Square and Oxton Village.

It was announced in Novermber 2020 that the Post Office counter within WHSmith would close when the store was scheduled to close down in July 2021.
