People living in and around Wirral who have lost a loved one have been finding comfort by sharing their experiences at a new coffee morning in Eastham.
Colleagues at Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground are inviting anyone who has had a bereavement to come along to the free coffee mornings.
The gatherings were started as a way for people to talk about their experiences or to simply find companionship.
Yvonne Robinson, Burial Ground Consultant at Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground, said, “We have had three coffee mornings so far and it has brought people together from all over the local community. It has been really comforting to see people coming in and taking to others who have been in a similar position.
“We have even had a toddler and a dog attending so it really is something for everyone regardless of their circumstances.
“One lady was very apprehensive when she arrived but left with a big smile on her face and thanked us for a lovely time. It may have been grief that brought everyone together but it was a lovely atmosphere.
“Mayfields is unique and welcomes people for a cuppa and a biscuit – everyone’s treated like family. No booking, no rules, just bring a smile.”
In December, Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground became part of Southern Co-op which offers a free Bereavement Care service to people living near its funeral care branches or burial grounds.
The coffee mornings are an additional way of helping people with their grief.
The coffee mornings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at the grounds in Ferry Road, Eastham, CH62 0DB.
Yvonne Parry, Burial Ground Consultant, said, “Mayfields is so unique and special, it creates its own little community. We really are like family.
“Everyone walks out with a smile on their face and it’s just so beautiful to see how a little gathering with a cuppa and a biscuit really does us all the world of good.”
The next coffee morning will take place on 6 July from 10am to 11.30am. To find out more, contact Mayfields Woodland Burial Ground on 01513 272360 or visit www.mayfieldswoodlandburialground.co.uk/
