New Brighton RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew and HM Coastguard Crosby and Wirral worked together on a casualty care training exercise on Tuesday 29 November.
Often the teams work together in real rescue situations, both bringing their specialised skills and equipment to the job at hand to ensure a quick and safe outcome for the casualty.
At the training exercise, the lifeboat crew and coastguards split into four teams and worked together on various casualty care scenarios at the New Brighton Lifeboat Station.
Each team was faced with a scenario which challenged them to act quickly, calmly, and effectively to support the care of the casualty they were faced with.
The scenarios included trauma, unknown illnesses and preservation of life care. The teams practised key skills such as administering basic life support and use of a stretcher.
Michael Stannard, Helm at New Brighton Lifeboat Station led the session between the two partner agencies and said, “It was a great opportunity for us both to work together and gave us the chance to learn from one another. These training sessions can support us to work better together in the future and continue our mission of saving lives at sea.”
Mike Jones, Helm and Head Launcher added, “Multi-agency training sessions are beneficial and show the value of working as a team, particularly if we are required to attend a similar real-life situation under extreme conditions.”
