MSC Express West Cheshire Football League round-up, 5 August 2022

Reigning MSC Express West Cheshire League Division One champions, Mersey Royal, put down an early marker in the defence of their title, with a 4-1 victory at newly promoted Marine U23’s.

Fleet-footed striker Liam Driscoll bagged a smart double, and was joined on the scoresheet by Louis Williams and Kieron Cartwright as Glynn Norman’s charges hit the ground running.

Efforts from Caleb Jones and Connor Anderson anchored Mossley Hill Athletic to a 2-0 result over Aintree Villa, while Bootle St Edmunds‘ talismanic Mark Madden, found the net in his side’s 1-0 win at Heswall.

Debutants, Litherland Remyca Reserves, had a field day against Capenhurst Villa, Elliot Taylor (3) Cam Taylor (3) and Kieran Hughes obliging in Saturday’s 7-0 rout, but despite leading 2-0 against Rainhill Town, thanks to goals from Shay Roberts and Joe Ford, Vauxhall Motors Reserves, capitulated 3-2 after the visitors hit back through Chris Dunleavy, Dave Kelly and Steve Melville.

James Webb bagged both goals as Newton beat Prescot Cables Reserves 2-1 but a Robbie McDonald strike failed to prevent Maghull from going down 3-1 at home to Chester Nomads who had Dave Mitchell, Ted Thomas and Sandro Malletta on target.

In Division two, Helsby were indebted to goals from Lee Turkington, Jon Egerton and Sam Bailey for their 3-2 eclipse of Cheshire Lines, who had Connor Porteus and Sam Halpin in reply.

Ellis Byrne’s opener for Mallaby was negated by a reply from Maghull Reserves‘ Sam Dahi before a late free kick from Jack Ireland secured the points for the hosts.

A solitary effort from Alan Rainbow was enough, as Poulton Vics took maximum spoils from their trip to South Liverpool Reserves.

Goals from Salim Djabi and Lewis King were to no avail as Bootle Reserves went down 3-2 at home to Runcorn Sports and in a similar vein, Marshalls Reserves netted through Blackburn, Lavender, Fulton and Abayomi but went home pointless when Ashville Reserves emerged 5-4 victors courtesy of efforts from Cosgrove (2) Taylor, Maguire and Jones.

Saturday’s Division Three action saw South Liverpool 3rds, inspired by three-goal Tom Feeley, romp home 7-0 against Chester Nomads Reserves. Further efforts from Yates, Stolberg, Inglis and James completed the statistics while Murray and McDowell were the marksmen, as Capenhurst Villa Reserves, triumphed 2-0 at West Kirby Reserves.

Elliot, Jeffries and Ryan shared the goals as Rainhill Town Reserves beat Helsby Reserves 3-0 and newcomers, Hooton, got their campaign off to a flier, efforts from Ithell, McDonnough, Whalley and Smith seeking a 4-2 decision over Heswall Reserves.

Forrester and Huggins scored for the visitors. Dale Atherton and Jay Thomas bagged a goal apiece as Poulton Vics Reserves won 2-1 against Neston Nomads. Elsewhere, Aintree Villa Reserves savoured a 3-1 result at Groves.
