Midweek action – Wednesday’s Division Three clash between newcomers, Hooton and Helsby Res. produced a 3-3 stalemate, and saw Hooton, with goals from Nathan Saunders, Liam Smith and Owen Kelsey elevated to ninth place in the table. A Lee Turkington double, supported by an effort from Tom Brady, provided the visitors’ response.
The West Cheshire had mixed fortunes in the FA Youth Cup preliminary round and it was congratulations to Vauxhall Motors who secured their passage when a solitary strike from Jamie Gann sealed Buxton Youth‘s fate.
On the minus side, Runcorn Linnets netted through Adam Moseley (2) and Jake Hill but were eclipsed 5-3 by Clitheroe.
On Friday evening, fourth-placed Bootle St. Edmunds maintained interest in the Division One title race after efforts from Mark Madden (2), Karl Bergqvist, and Brad Shearwood clinched a 4-1 victory over Chester Nomads who had Ben Coward in reply.
Newton‘s 2-1 result over Marine U23s was confirmed by goals from Mike Ogilvie and Dan Bulayima. Harrison Wirden scored for Marine.
Weekend action – On Saturday, it was business as usual for Division One leaders and reigning champions, Mersey Royal, who celebrated their sixth successive victory. Dillon Thomas, Jamie Leyland, and Lewy Willingham finding the net in a 3-0 win over Vauxhall Motors Res.
Marcus Stewart, John Holmes, and Connor Rankin shared the goals as Maghull won 3-1 at Prescot Cables Res., who had Dave Bockarie on the mark.
Aintree Villa followed suit, Joel Jackson (2) and Mark Barnes finding the net in a 3-1 decision at Rainhill Town, with Jamie Casson scoring the hosts’ consolation.
Ryan Nicoll bagged the game’s only goal as Capenhurst Villa accounted for Heswall, while Ben Summers and Levi Chiduku were Ellesmere Port Town‘s marksmen in their side’s 2-1 result over Marshalls, who hit back via Jack Edwards.
Elsewhere, brothers Elliot (2) and Cam Taylor scored for Litherland Remyca Res. but it was visitors, Mossley Hill Ath. who profited via a 6-3 scoreline, thanks to replies from Adil Mohammed (2), Tyler Magee, Cal Jones, Joe Hornby, and Paul Pearson.
Josh Ross netted the only goal of the game as West Kirby savoured their first win of the season in Division Two.
A Callum Hodgkinson double failed to prevent Marshalls Res. from going down 3-2 at home efforts from Mossley Hill Ath. Res.‘ Liam Blundell (2) and Harvey Jones.
Tom Ward, Matty McHale, and Joe Tynan shared the goals in Maghull Res., 3-0 result over Cheshire Lines.
Aintree Villa Res. opened up a three-point gap at the top of Division Three, following a 3-0 win at Chester Nomads Res., while nearest rivals, Neston Nomads forfeited ground, after they finished 0-0 with Poulton Royal.
The West Kirby club recorded a notable double on the day after their reserve side also won for the first time this season, Owen Hollywood obliging with both goals in a 2-0 win at Hooton.
The points were shared after efforts from South Liverpool 3rds‘ Cam Inglis (2) and Tom Bagan were cancelled out by replies from Heswall Res.‘ Jack Gibson, Aaron Baird, and Jordan Chwalko.
Top Scorers on the day were Helsby Res. who scored through Lee Turkington (3), Anthony Collings (2), Tom Brady, Jordan Ditchfield, and Alexandros Konstantinidis in an 8-0 rout of local rivals Runcorn Sports Res.
Andy Noonan and Kal Herbert scored a goal apiece as Higher Bebington Kelma won 2-1 at Groves, Jordan Finlay replying, and in another 2-1 finish, Joe Hayes and Jack Hill were Ellesmere Port Town Res.‘ scorers against Rainhill Town Res., whose consolation was accredited to Cam Ramsay.
Saturday’s Youth Division action saw current leaders, South Liverpool U18s make it three wins from as many outings, after Owen Thompson, Jack Colburn and Joe Webster made the scoresheet in a 3-2 success at Vauxhall Motors U18s. The Motormen had a Leo Patton effort and an own goal to show for their efforts.
Nearest rivals, Mossley Hill Ath. U18s, inspired by efforts from Asher Duncan (3), Callum Smithwick, Jacob Bowsie, Charlie Fisher, and Chris Hapi-Fankum, romped home 7-1 at Maghull U18s. Finn Turner netted for the hosts.
A smart double from Liam Grealis anchored third-placed Poulton Vics U18s to a 2-0 win against City Of Liverpool U18s while on target for Ormskirk West End U18s in their 4-1 verdict over Victoria Colts U18s were Charlie Campbell, Dylan Caton, Adam Procto,r and Ben Rathbone. The visitors had Joe Emery on the mark.
