MSC Express West Cheshire Football League round-up, 20 August 2022

Monday 15 August 2022 – Monday saw Mallaby assume pole position in the race for the MSC Express West Cheshire League’s Division Two title, after efforts from Ellis Byrne, skipper Wade Sword, Jack Ledsham and Jordan Martin secured a 4-1 victory at West Kirby, who had Josh Ross on target.

Goals from Aaron Gerrard and Cal Taylor were enough, as South Liverpool Res. eclipsed Marshalls Res. 2-0, and in Division One, Marine U23’s opened their account when Harrison Denton netted in a 1-1 stalemate with Marshalls’ senior side. Taylor Moss was the visitors’ marksman.

In Division Three, leaders Aintree Villa Res. made it four wins on the bounce, after they accounted for South Liverpool 3rds 4-1, with efforts from Jack Terry, Alfie Lambert, David Pursglove and Dylan Lawless, with Luke Gill posting for South.

Fourth-placed Poulton Vics Res. were indebted to a solitary strike from Liam Whelan which denied West Kirby Res., while newcomers, Hooton, maintained their 100% record when Ben Smith, Lloyd Ithell and Joel Whalley found the net in a 3-0 result at local rivals, Ellesmere Port Town Res.

Higher Bebington Kelma‘s 2-0 decision over Chester Nomads Res. was confirmed by a goal apiece from Ben Kierman and Jack Bolderstone.

Tuesday 16 August 2022 – Word is that it will take a good side to prevent Mersey Royal from repeating last season’s Division One title success, and with four consecutive victories to their credit already under their belt, their odds are shortening.

Tuesday’s 3-0 triumph at Ellesmere Port Town featured goals from Mikey Williams, Andy Rogers and Ryan Coles while nearest rivals, Mossley Hill Ath., who are also undefeated, celebrated a 7-0 rout of Prescot Cables Res., thanks to efforts from Owen Cassidy (3), Connor Anderson (2), Cal Jones, and Mike Fearnyhough.

Despite a goal from Dave Kelly, Rainhill Town suffered their first reversal of the season after Maghull, with goals from Connor Rankin and Mike Speed emerged 2-1 victors.

Doubles from Zak Catesby and Ben Dufton-Kelly were supplemented by a further effort from Jack Darlington, as Vauxhall Motors Res. romped home 5-1 at Chester Nomads, whose response came from Ben Coward.

Wednesday 17 August 2022 – Still in search of their first win of the season, Heswall suffered their fourth defeat from as many starts and remained in a relegation situation in Division One, after they crashed 6-0 at home to Newton. Doubles from Liam Smith, Elliot Jackson and Ross McDowell inspired the visitors to victory and into fifth place in the table.

The points were shared after an effort from Aintree Villa‘s Alex Kelly was cancelled out by an equaliser from Litherland Remyca Res.‘ Elliot Taylor.

Last season’s Division Three champions, Sutton Ath., recorded their second win since their elevation to the second tier when Lee Ludgate (2), Connor Doyle, Niall Mulreay, and Joe Cotton shared the goals in a 5-2 result over previously unbeaten Ashville Res., who had Charlie McInnes and Jordan Dilworth in reply.

Joe Deane (2), and Jordan Cunningham were on the mark for Helsby Res. in their Division Three clash with fourth-placed challengers Neston Nomads, but it was the visitors who profited, Cam Meadows (2), Jordan Ngubu, and Jack Coll netting to clinch a 4-3 win.

Friday 19 August 2022 – Four goal Ben Summers inspired Ellesmere Port Town to a 7-3 victory in their Division One tussle at Chester Nomads. Further efforts from Joe Hayes, Luis Daven and Tom Merrill completed the statistics, while Ben Coward (2), and Dan Delgado made the scoresheet for Nomads.

The points were shared after a goal from Newton‘s Ged King was negated by a reply from Mossley Hill Ath.‘s Owen Cassidy and in a 3- 3 draw between Marine U23‘s and Aintree Villa, Harrison Worden (2), Ben Jones. Joel Jackson, Jay Aspinall and Mark Barnes were the respective goalscorers. On the minus side, City of Liverpool U18‘s were eliminated from the FA Youth Cup after they went down 2-1 to Radcliff in the preliminary round.

Weekend actionVauxhall Motors Res., with goals from Nathan Johnston, Shay Roberts, and Matty Morris savoured their third win of the season and were elevated to third place in Division One, after beating Litherland Rmyac Res., 3-1.

Tom Carney obliged for the visitors, and Heswall chalked up their first points on the board, after efforts from Max Giani and Tyler Wilkinson secured a 2-1 result at Prescot Cables Res. who had Lewis Lyall on the mark.

Ryan Nicoll and Steve Rowlands netted for Capenhurst Villa, but replies from Jacob Till and Chris Sang ensured visitors Marshalls of a point.

A similar scenario saw goals from Maghull‘s Cam Taylor and Connor Rankin cancelled out by a double from Bootle St. Edmunds‘ Mark Madden.

Mallaby stayed atop Division Two but suffered nervy moments against a dogged Poulton Royal who scored through Ryan Slater, Ben Hawitt, Anthony Evans and Karl Mullen before going down 7-4. An Ellis Byrne hat trick allied to further efforts from Liam McHugh, Jack Ireland, Lewy Gouldson and Mitchell McGraa sealed the win for the hosts.

A Frank Ward goal and a Ben Kearney penalty were enough, as second-placed Poulton Vics. eclipsed Maghull Res. 2-0, but a goal from Connor Egan failed to prevent West Kirby from losing 4-1 at home to efforts from Sutton Ath.‘s Lee Ludgate (2), Connor Doyle, and Dave Roxburgh.

Lee Turkington struck twice and a further effort from Owen Kucharski sufficed and earned Helsby a 3-2 decision over Mossley Hill Ath. Res. who scored through Adil Mohammed and Leo Reynolds.

Division Three leaders, Aintree Villa Res. turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead at Hooton, courtesy of a Dylan Lawless double, the newcomers salvaging ed a share of the spoils, through two-goal Joel Whalley.

Hat tricks from brothers, Dom and Ryan Bazeley, together with a Steve Woodward strike, inspired Runcorn Sports Res. to a 7-2 win against Capenhurst Villa Res., while a solitary strike from Cam Meadows, gleaned all three points for second-placed Neston Nomads, from their local derby with Heswall Res.

Amine Hafsi and Jack Swift Douglas bagged a goal each as Ellesmere Port Town Res. beat West Kirby Res. 2-0, and Groves posted their first win of the season, when Will Smith and Ryan Bailey netted in 2- 1 result over Chester Nomads Res. who had Cam Clarke on target.

Elsewhere, Ben Kierman was Higher Bebington Kelma‘s marksman in a 1-1 draw with Helsby Res.

And so to Saturday’s Youth Division action, and Poulton Vics U18‘s opened their campaign in style thanks to a 6-1 victory at Maghull U18’s , endorsed by goals from Matty Barclay (2), Kyle Ward, Kian Hamm, Noah Kerr, and Liam Grealis. The hosts replied through Max Horrigan and it was a negative start for Victoria Colts U18’s who scored through Joseph Emery and Dylan Roach, but were beaten 3-2 by leaders, South Liverpool, who made it maximum returns from their first two outings, with replies from Kyan Skinley (2), and Dylan Crawford clinching the points.
