MSC Express West Cheshire Football League round-up, 17 September 2022

Midweek action – A week to remember for MSC Express West Cheshire League Division One title aspirants, Bootle St. Edmunds, who remained firmly in contention, following back-to-back wins in five days.

On Monday, Mark Madden struck four times and was joined on the scoresheet by Bradley Shearwood (3) Lewis O’Reilly, and James McShane in a 9-2 rout of Litherland Remyca Res., who had Josh Rice and Lennon Whewell on target.

Madden was on the mark again on Friday when the third-placed challengers eclipsed Marine U23’s 3-1. Further efforts from Dylan Westerside and Karl Bergqvist cemented the win. Harrison Denton replied for the visitors.

On the minus side, despite finishing 2-2 with Chester Youth in a keenly contested FA Youth Cup first round clash, Vauxhall Motors Youth lost the subsequent penalty shoot-out 4-1.

Weekend action – Division One pacesetters, Mersey Royal, safeguarded their hundred per cent record after goals from Kieran Cartwright and Tom Morfan secured a 2-0 decision over Mossley Hill Ath., while nearest rivals, Newton, maintained interest.

Ross McDowell (2), Tom Field, and Liam Smith found the net in a fine 4-1 win at Maghull, who had Josh Hamilton in response. The points were shared after a goal from Ellesmere Port Town‘s Tom Merrill was negated by an effort from Rainhill Town‘s Dave Kelly.

A fine hat trick from Heswall‘s Callum Morrison anchored his side to a 3-1 result over Chester Nomads who hit back via Ben Coward. A double from Litherland Remyca‘s Elliot Taylor failed to prevent his side from capitulating 3-2 to Vauxhall Motors Res. who sealed the issue courtesy of replies from Nathan Johnston (2) and Josh Henry. Elsewhere in the top flight, Ryan Nicoll, James Davies, Steve Rowlands, and Dom Hoppe applied the finishing touches as Capenhurst Villa pulled off a 4-3 win at Aintree Villa. Mark Barnes, Matty Wordell and Dan Evans scored the hosts’ consolations.

Still boasting a hundred per cent record at the top of Division Two, Poulton Vics made it eight wins from as many outings after Steve Forbes, Jason Bull and Shaun Parrinton found the net in a 3-1 win against Mossley Hill Ath. Res.

Jack Boden hit the target for the visitors and a solitary effort from Nathan Barnes saw Cheshire Lines overcome Marshalls Res. Inspired by a Leon Jones hat trick, second-placed Ashville Res. emerged 5-4 victors over promotion rivals, Sutton Ath. Robbie Williams and Degga Taylor also netted for the winners, with Callum Doyle, Jack Proudfoot, Liam Brennan and Niall Mulreay posting for Sutton.

A smart double from Yusuf Moshin coupled with an effort from Bobby Murphy, steered South Liverpool Res. to a 3-0 result over Mallaby, while Helsby, with goals from brothers Evan and Owen Kucharski together with an effort from Sam Bailey, won by the same scoreline against West Kirby.

Tommy Carroll netted for Poulton Royal but it was Runcorn Sports who profited, Ben Forster, Steve Woodward and Stephen Butler scoring in a 3-1 triumph for the hosts.

South Sefton Borough registered their first win of the season, Mick King (2) and Mark Law applying the finishing touches in a 3-0 win at Bootle Res. Division Three leaders, Aintree Villa, stayed three points in credit at the top, thanks to a 4-0 victory at Rainhill Town Res., confirmed by efforts from Dave Pursglove (3) and Matty Sohl.

Another three goal hero was Neston Nomads‘ Cam Meadows, whose contribution was bolstered by a Will Sara-Kelly effort and an own goal in Saturday’s 5-1 win against local rivals, Ellesmere Port Town Res., who answered through Henry Blance.

Third-placed newcomers, Higher Bebington Kelma, savoured a 3-0 result at Capenhurst Villa Res., with goals from Kal Herbert (2) and Andy Simpson. On target for South Liverpool 3rds in their 5-1 win against Helsby Res., were Joe Collins, Alex Yates, Joe Ferguson, Jordan Flynn and John Foulkes. The visitors scored through Anthony Collings.

It was honours even after efforts from West Kirby Res.’ Luke Nourse and Peter Brown were cancelled out by replies from Poulton Vics Res.’ Leo Jones and Anthony Jacobs but a goal from Chester Nomads Res.‘ Spencer Postles proved to no avail, after visitors Runcorn Sports Res., bagged maximum spoils thanks to an Alfie Archer double.

Also on the receiving end were South Wirral outfit, Groves, who scored through Corey Beaven only to be upstaged by replies from Heswall Res.’ Harry Huggins, Louis Brown and Harvey Forster.

New Youth Division leaders are Mossley Hill Ath., who had Asher Duncan, Charlie Fisher, Chris Happi- Fankum and Abdul Aziz Barry on target in a 4-2 result over Poulton Vics who rallied through Matt Barclay and Jack Bentley.

Second-placed BRNESC, with goals from Jack Todd, Callum Cureton and Pat Irving accounted for third-placed rivals, South Liverpool, Kian Skinley and Ellis Jago netting for the visitors.

A four-goal blast from Runcorn Linnets‘ Mike Martin set his side up for a 5-3 win against Victoria Colts. Jenson Sadler also made the scoresheet with Rory Aldiss, Joe Emery and an own goal-making up Vics’ contribution.

Vauxhall Motors shook off the disappointment of their FA Youth Cup exit by beating Ormskirk West End 2-1, Luke Burns claiming both goals. Elliot Barry scored for Maghull but still finished on the losing side, efforts from Ethan Wetton, Freddie Beckett and Adam Lyons sparking a 3-1 result for City of Liverpool.
