Motorcyclist dies in M53 Moreton Spur collision

Merseyside Police officers are investigating a fatal collision at the Moreton Spur of the M53 yesterday, Sunday 17 July, and are appealing for information.

At around 7.25pm, emergency services were called to Junction 2, at the entrance to the southbound carriageway, to reports that a white and silver Suzuki motorbike collided with a barrier.

Emergency services attended but the rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 30s, sadly passed away at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The area was closed to traffic while an investigation was launched and the vehicle removed.  The road has since reopened.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said, “We are investigating a collision on the M53 last night where a man sadly passed away. Our thoughts are with his family, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been driving in the area at around 7.25pm last night who may have seen a white and silver Suzuki motorbike being ridden prior to the collision.

“Similarly, if you have dashcam footage of the area, please review it and let us know if you see the bike described. All information you hold could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to call the Merseyside Police Matrix Roads Policing Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference 22000511795.
