Birkenhead Sixth Form College has been shortlisted for being the ‘most inspirational sixth form’ by the largest education awards in the North West.
Educate Awards named the Claughton-based college as one of just four Further Education colleges in the region for the award, which recognises high ambitions for every student with outstanding teaching and support.
The shortlisting comes after another educational awards named Birkenhead Sixth Form College ‘College of the Year 2023’ earlier this year, and A Level results in the summer at the college broke pre-pandemic records.
Despite being a non-selective institution, the percentage of students at the College who had the option of grammar school education after high school achieving high grades of A* – B was 73%. Students join the College, which is the only specialist sixth form in the area, from more than 60 different high schools in Wirral, Merseyside, Cheshire and beyond each year.
Educate Awards were established in 2012 and the ceremony this year takes place at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday 17th November, where a total of 20 awards are up for grabs and the finest schools, colleges, teachers and support staff come together to celebrate their achievements.
Principal at Birkenhead Sixth Form College, Mike Kilbride, said, “There is something about this award shortlisting being for ‘most inspirational’ sixth form that means the most to us, because it truly reflects what we stand for at this college.
“We are in the business of changing lives and the opportunities that we work hard each and every day to offer students see them develop both academically and personally.
“Students achieve more with us than they would do anywhere else in the region, and results proved that again this year, but it’s the people that they become in the process and during the college experience that matters too. We inspire for them to aspire, and they meet their ambitions and goals every year, without question.”
Mike concluded, “To be named as one of only four institutions shortlisted for this award speaks volumes about the success of our students, but it’s also important to recognise the staff for such an accolade.
“Their expertise and unrelenting commitment to their students’ education and personal development is astounding, but not surprising at this college.
“We don’t just spring into action come exam season: every interaction with students is vital; every lesson counts. That is what is inspiring for young people, and I am proud that this award nomination celebrates that.”
