Moel Famau challenge funds Wirral U12s Scandinavian football tour

Year 7 pupils from various schools within the borough have recently represented Wirral School Boys U12s for a Scandinavian tour of Denmark and Sweden, organised by the team coaches.

The enriching adventure was created to build confidence, increase team collaboration and to provide the boys with an unforgettable experience of playing international football.

The journey started in January, on a cold and snowy Saturday when the team completed a sponsored walk up Moel Famau, raising £1,800 to help fund the trip.

During the three-day tour, the team played friendly matches against BK Skjold in Copenhagen and Malmö FF Academy in Sweden.  This included a visit to Malmö Stadium – home to former striker, Zlatan Ibrahimović.

The trip culminated with an invitation to watch Malmö FF v Varbergs BoIS on Sunday, 3 March,  which resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Peter Silcock, Wirral U12s coach said, “What an amazing opportunity this has been for these young players to experience international football as well as creating memories and new friendships!

“We would like to thank our sponsors, The Composite Door Store (CDS) and Wirral Wrap, plus all of the players’ families that have helped with fundraising efforts to kit out the team.  And finally, thank you to the Headteachers that have supported their pupils’ participation in the trip.”
