Micky Mellon speaks ahead of Harrogate game

Rovers boss Micky Mellon insists that nobody in the Tranmere camp are getting carried away with his side’s rich vein of form and that nobody is getting too high or too low.

“Winning games of football is great but we don’t allow things to get too high or too low, that’s not the way we set up the environment here. Winning is what football is all about but the message is still the same, we keep pushing forward and keep producing those performances with that mentality and that attitude to keep doing that.

“The minute you believe that you’re going to get given anything and it’s not going to take pure hard work, then you will find yourself in trouble. We keep the place level headed.

“It comes down to good players doing good things. I’ll never overplay my part in this, I try to keep things simple and it’s all about good players doing things well. It’s no more than that. Our job is to just keep the standards of that and keep helping to try and improve them.

“I spoke a few weeks ago about having lack of competition but now we’re getting to a place where we have other options if things don’t quite go our way in a game. That’s good for the health of the group.”

After winning their last three away games without even conceding a goal, Micky was questioned about what has changed from before Tranmere’s winning run on the road.

“Believe it or not, we’re not doing anything different in terms of what we’re asking the players to do. Again, it’s just about good players doing good things more or most of the time. We always believed that if the players got to the level of doing things consistently well then we would get results.”

Harrogate are the team standing between Rovers and a sixth straight league win, a challenge that Micky is under no illusions of how tough it will be.

“I always know that going up to Harrogate will always be a really tough game. We drew 2-2 there last year in a Basketball game that went end to end and it could have gone either way. It will be a game against a really tough opposition who usually do really well at home and they’ll be looking forward to playing against us so we will need to be at our best again to get something out of the game.”
