Micky Mellon speaks ahead of Barrow game

Micky Mellon says that Rovers have moved on from last week’s dramatic win and are fully focused on the task ahead as Barrow visit Prenton Park.

“The tough thing about football is that you quickly have to move on and get on with it. Quite quickly after the last game, you’re preparing for the next one and getting the team recovered and ready for the next one,” he said.

After back-to-back 1-0 away wins, Rovers seem to have found their rhythm in recent weeks and Micky simply puts this down to players doing their jobs within the team.

“We’ve got people in the team doing their jobs well, it’s all about the players. The players have roles to do and it’s up to them to go and perform and that’s how you get clean sheets and win games.

“There’s still a lot to do, of course. We have talented players in the building, they’re still learning about each other and the staff are still learning about them. They’re showing the consistency at the minute, right the way through the team but there’s still a lot of room for growth.

“The players have done a lot of resting this week because we’ve just had a busy spell and we’re about to go into another one so you have to get the balance and intensity right. It has been good for the group to have a mental and physical breather when needed. We’re starting to show the things we believe are necessary to win games and we’ll be ready for Saturday.

“We have to go out there and be us and be the best version of us. We understand that Barrow are doing well in the league table so we know we’ll have to be the best version of ourselves at Prenton Park which is a place where we’re normally quite strong.”

The boss also gave us an update on the current injury situation.

“Lee O’Connor is back from international duty this week. Kieron Morris has kept stepping up his fitness and played 45 minutes last week. Kyle Jameson has had a good week of training and can come back into things so we’re starting to see more and more players coming back. Nolan has also trained this week.”
