Tranmere Manager Micky Mellon is raring to go ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and is looking forward to competitive football once again after pre-season.
“All of the work we have put into the last five-and-a-half weeks will hopefully come to fruition now during the season.
“We’re really pleased and excited with our recruitment. We’ve got a lot of young mentalities in the group and plenty of enthusiasm and ambition. It might take a little bit of time but we’ll try to hurry that up if we can and get those levels of performances that get us results. There is a lot of development to be done with the younger players that we’ve got but I’m confident that we’ll be able to put in performances and win games of football.
“We’ve brought in the personnel to cope with the demands and the way we want to play and we’re happy with how we’ve done that. “We’ve learnt from last season, we were disappointed that we didn’t get promoted because we’re really ambitious. We had a lot of young players who we feel will benefit a lot this season from that experience as well as adding to the group. We will be expected, and rightly so, to deliver this season and that’s what we set out to do every season.
“Stevenage have invested really well into their squad with a good, experience manager in Steve Evans who knows the division very well and know what type of players are needed to do well. I expect that they will be very strong this year and Saturday is a really tough start for us and it will show us where we’re up to very quickly.
“We kicked off last season at Prenton Park so we’re happy to do that again as we love playing at home. The pitch, the fans and the atmosphere is second to none so we enjoy being at home. The team will undoubtedly be excited about going out there to perform and showing all of the things we’ve worked hard on over pre-season. I expect us go out there and show a good level of performance and desire.”
