Over 50 golfers took part in the first Wirral University Teaching Hospital -WUTH Charity Golf event including pro golfer and charity ambassador John Singleton, Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jay Spearing and former WBC Cruiserweight Champion Tony Bellew.
The event was in support of Arrowe Park Hospital’s Neonatal Unit and its ‘Tiny Stars’ fundraising appeal. The appeal is aiming to raise £1.5 million for improvements to the unit, which cares for very poorly and premature babies.
Tony was part of the DT Hughes Group team along with managing director Dave Hughes, who is a continued supporter of WUTH Charity. Also teeing off at the prestigious Carden Park Cheshire Course where teams from Tesco, Venturi Cardiology, SLG construction and others.
John Singleton said, “I am very proud to be supporting the WUTH Charity Golf Event at Carden Park. Being from the Wirral, Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals are so important to me and the Wirral community- I was really happy to get involved. I met the Charity team whilst I was receiving care as a patient and the work they are doing for the Tiny Stars Appeal is so important.”
Fortified by breakfast, courtesy of Health Wirral Unison, the twelve teams taking part enjoyed a lovely sunny 18 holes of golf followed by a meal, prize giving and a raffle.
Also helping to boost the appeal funds were The Locket Hair and Beauty, Lower Farm Holiday Cottages, Merseyside Industrial Supplies and Module Co Health Care who were the hole sponsors.
The First Prize, a four-ball golf weekend in Ireland, courtesy of Club Choice Ireland was won by the team from Santander, Jason Hopwood, Pete Bone, Biju Chudasama and Wayne Perrin.
