After a contented two years as a Tranmere Rovers man, midfielder Chris Merrie has penned a new deal at Prenton Park which is due to run out at the end of the 2023-24 season.
The 24-year-old arrived at Rovers from Wigan Athletic, where he was subject to two loans away from the club, as well as making 26 appearances for the Latics.
Merrie has been an ever-present for Rovers since under Micky Mellon and Ian Dawes’ tenure as managers, and he looks to stay a regular ahead of the new season.
The midfielder is expected back in early July after a set-back of a knee injury against Carlisle in March, so this will make him want to come back stronger.
Speaking to the media ahead of his new contact, Merrie said, “I’m made up it’s finally done and I’m just looking forward to getting myself fully fit and getting back into it.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Tranmere. It’s a really good club to play for with the fans, the ground, everything about it.
Merrie was signed under Micky Mellon and now renews his contract under new permanent manager Ian Dawes, and the Rovers boss is pleased he has got the deal over the line.
“I’m pleased Chris will be staying with us,” Dawes said.
“He’s the type of character we need at the Club. He’s someone who always gives his all for the team and is a very good professional.
“He was unfortunate that his run in the side came to an end because of his injury but the Club has stood by him and we look forward to having him back on the training pitch in the near future.”
