Tranmere hosted Sutton United this afternoon for a 3pm kick-off, in their latest fixture of the 2021/22 League 2 season.
Ahead of today’s game, Micky Mellon said, “We were delighted with the way the lads performed (in the previous two games.)”
“We had a way and a structure of playing in both of the games, so it’s really pleasing how the lads tried to fit into that structure.
“It was two different wins. It shows different ways that you need to play in order to try and get results but that’s all credit to the players.
“It’s been a good week for us, and we want to finish it off with another positive performance and result at the weekend. It gives us an opportunity over the next couple of games where we have got home games to try and show that home form and pick up as many points as we can one game at a time.”

A mediocre Tranmere performance handed Sutton United a 1-0 victory at Prenton Park this afternoon.
The game started slowly, with neither side seemingly willing or able to try and take control. However, it was Sutton who started the better, when with two minutes on the clock, Jay Spearing fouled Olaofe during a powerful run towards the Tranmere goal.
For his efforts, Spearing was rewarded with a yellow card and will now miss the trip to Bristol next week due to totting up 5 yellows this season.
Just before half time, Sutton threatened to break the deadlock, firstly with a header that hit the post from Will Randall and secondly with a shot from David Ajiboye that went narrowly wide.
In the final minutes of the first half, Liam Feeney had a chance to send Tranmere into the break in the lead. Breaking forward on a swift counter, Feeney took a left-footed punt at goal, but it cleared the crossbar comfortably, leaving the match all square at the end of the first 45.
For most of the second half, Sutton were dominant and their commitment was rewarded at 71 minutes when Olaofe robbed Clarke of the ball and headed goalwards for a one-on-one with Doohan. Olaofe beat the Tranmere keeper with a shot into the far corner of the net.
Tranmere visit Bristol Rovers in their next League 2 fixture at 3pm on Saturday 20 November.

Full time. ✅Sutton defended under so much pressure for the end of this match. What a performance from the U’s. Solid at the back and the man @tantss_o gets the winning goal. ⚽️3-points on the road. Enjoy the trip home Amber Army. Safe travels. 👏💛 pic.twitter.com/cVyEZrK0hG— Sutton United FC (@suttonunited) November 13, 2021

No urgency at all, instead of going forward, we go back! #TRFC— JohnR35 (@johnrtrfc) November 13, 2021

Genuine question, but when does Mellon start to be under pressure? Losing at home to Sutton isnt great is it?#trfc #swa— Phil Gandy (@phil_g_87) November 13, 2021

I’m still confident Nevitt is the right choice with the current squad we have but he needs the right players around him, players that will run in behind off him; he wins most things, he brings others into play, but he obviously then can’t always be in the box himself #swa #trfc— Dominic Treacy (@dOoZe_) November 13, 2021
