Mecca Bingo in Birkenhead celebrates Silver Jubilee

Mecca Bingo in Birkenhead is commemorating its 25th anniversary this month. To mark the milestone, the club is hosting a weekend of celebrations from the 25 to 27 November, offering free bingo, top prizes, and a bundle of guest appearances.

Mecca Bingo Birkenhead first opened its doors in November 1997. The grand opening was filled with entertainment, featuring local guest of honour Duncan ‘Chase Me!’ Norvelle, and a West End-esque show from a standout song and dance troupe.

Within three months of opening the club had won the industrywide ‘National Game’ more than six times, earning it the title of ‘Luckiest Bingo Club in the Country’ and in 2019 it hit the headlines again, giving away more than £2 million in 12 months.

The club has moved with the times, with events attracting new audiences, including its ever-popular Bonkers Bingo with 90s dance anthems and madcap prizes.

There will be an abundance of birthday events across the weekend, beginning with a free bingo on Friday 25 November, before the party really gets started on Saturday, with a performance from Charlie Starr who will be on hand to wow guests with a selection of Lady Gaga hits.

The celebrations come to a close on Sunday night with the grand finale, hosted by BBC Radio Merseyside’s Mark Lees. Mark, who was a Mecca employee for 33 years and one of the main callers on the opening night, maintains strong links with the club and is looking forward to making a welcome return. To mark the occasion customers will receive a free glass of bubbly and it’s all to play for with a guaranteed £1000 jackpot.

The general manager of Birkenhead Mecca Bingo, Sue Winstanley, said, “We’re thrilled to be celebrating 25 years at Mecca Bingo Birkenhead. Over the years we’ve had a number of big wins in the club so we wanted to celebrate in style by offering guests a big weekend of brilliant events and prizes. Roll on the next 25 years!”
