McGee lands Tranmere move

Tranmere Rovers announced the signing of their new goalkeeper, bringing in free agent Luke McGee after recently departing Forest Green Rovers.

A product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, McGee’s breakthrough into men’s football came with a loan spell at Peterborough United.

He’s since had cameos for Portsmouth and Bradford City before joining Forest Green ahead of the 2020-21 season. McGee was instrumental in between the sticks for the Greens, winning goalkeeper of the month during that time as well as the League Two title.

A loan spell at Derby came, but McGee made no appearances as he acted as backup to Joe Wildsmith.

Upon release, McGee was snatched up by the Whites and he commits to the new season.

On the arrival of McGee, Tranmere manager Ian Dawes stated, “We’re very happy to get Luke’s signing over the line as we have been looking for an experienced goalkeeper who will be vocal and play a key part in organising his back line.

“Luke is a great example of that with experience of getting promoted from this league.”

After putting pen to paper on a deal at Prenton Park, a jubilant McGee said, “I’m over the moon to get it done. The gaffer rang me last week, we were on the phone for a good while and he just explained his philosophy, his plans moving forward, and it went exactly hand in hand with how I want to do it.”
