Tranmere Rovers hosted Bolton Wanderers at Prenton Park this afternoon and goals from Danny Lloyd and James Vaughan secured a 2-1 win for the home side.
Tranmere kept an unchanged line up following their league win against Forest Green for the game against Bolton.
Just four minutes into the game, Danny Lloyd hit the back of the net from 20 yards out after Ryan Delaney failed to clear Liam Feeney’s cross.
Tranmere next threatened in the 17th minute as Otis Khan struck from 20-yards, but it sailed over the crossbar.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Tranmere nearly got a second, as Feeney struck a free kick in but Vaughan couldn’t quite connect with the ball in any threatening manner.
In the 52nd minute, Feeney broke into the penalty box and as he shot, Ryan Delaney crashed into him, leading referee Neil Hair to award a penalty for the home side.
Vaughan stepped up to take the penalty and netted his second penalty against Bolton this season.
Ten minutes later, Bolton’s Sarcevic dinked an easy ball home from close range after Tranmere’s defence didn’t clear a low cross in.
Wanderers substitute, Arthur Gnahoua, forced a save from Davies before firing wide, with the visitors looking likely to grab an equaliser.
Delaney, after giving away the penalty, was shown a second yellow and left Bolton with just ten men for the last 15 minutes of play.
Despite six minutes of added time and constant pressure from the Bolton side, Tranmere held on to ensure the win.
