Tranmere Rovers hosted Bradford City at Prenton Park for their Boxing Day fixture. The visitors won for the third time in a row under caretaker manager Mark Trueman by beating Tranmere 1-0.
Former Bradford striker James Vaughan set up a great chance for Corey Blackett-Taylor at seven minutes. Vaughan’s pass caused confusion in the Bradford defence, which allowed Blackett-Taylor to poke the ball past goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell but also wide of the post.
Gareth Evans was denied by Tranmere goalkeeper Scott Davies early in the second half, but two Tranmere substitutions did nothing to stop Lee Novak’s headed 62nd-minute goal.
Bradford City’s keeper, O’Donnell, had to deal with shots from Calum MacDonald and Danny Lloyd as Tranmere kept pressing the Bradford defence in front of a socially-distanced ‘capacity’ home crowd of 2,000.
Clarke fired a long ball to Vaughan, but his touch was tipped away by a full-stretch dive by O’Donnell with 12 minutes to go.
Three minutes of extra time didn’t help Rovers and the score stood at a 1-0 defeat for Tranmere as the final whistle blew.
