Tranmere Rovers hosted Peterborough United at a damp Prenton Park this evening with goals from Danny Lloyd and Paul Lewis securing victory and progression to the semi-finals of the EFL Trophy.
Peterborough substitute Jonson Clarke-Harris converted from the spot in the 91st minute to pull one back, following a foul in the area by Otis Khan.
As has been commonplace in recent games, Tranmere were not without the odd scare here and there. A back pass to Joe Murphy somehow nearly trickled over the line, but luckily, the lightest of breezes must have stopped the ball in its path.
Nya Kirby, with his second start for the Club, unleashed a powerful strike which narrowly missed in the 21st minute.
Former Peterborough man Lloyd curled in a free-kick from 25-yards to the far left hand corner, opening the scoring at 38 minutes, after Calum MacDonald was fouled by Ethan Hamilton.
Peterborough kept the pressure on the hosts and during the 63rd minute, substitute Samuel Szmodics’ attempt on goal was denied by an alert Murphy in the Tranmere goal.
At the other end, a cross from Khan was met by Lewis’ head to give Tranmere their second of the evening.
Peterborough were awarded a penalty after a late challenge by Khan; Clarke-Harris converted from the spot at 91 minutes.
