Man sought following city centre assault

Detectives have issued CCTV images of a man who could have information that may assist with their enquiries following an assault in Liverpool City Centre on August Bank Holiday weekend.

At around 4.50am on Sunday 27 August a man in his 30s was punched in the face by another man where he then fell backwards and the back of his head hit the ground on Back Colquitt Street, at the rear of Fact cinema.

The victim suffered serious head injuries which required hospital treatment, and he is still recovering from his injuries.

The alleged offender left the scene soon after the incident with two other men, walking towards Wood Street in the direction of Berry Street and got into a taxi.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect responsible, and detectives have issued images of a man they believe could assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said, “This was a dangerous and reckless attack that has left the victim seriously injured where he is still recovering from the attack.

“This incident took place at a time when there would have been busy with people out celebrating the Bank Holiday weekend, so if you were in the vicinity in the early hours of Sunday and saw anything, then please contact us.

“We are taking this incident extremely seriously and I am appealing to the man featured in this image, or anyone who recognises him to come forward. We believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.”
