A 29-year-old man has today, Wednesday 14 December, been sentenced for an assault outside a pub in Litherland in December 2021.
Officers were contacted following reports a man in his 40s had been slashed across the face outside the Jubilee Inn on Hatton Hill Road. A man made off from the scene following the incident.
Following an intensive investigation, Paul Blackhurst was arrested at an address in the Wigan area in June this year.
He pleaded guilty to s18 wounding with intent and was today jailed for three years and nine months.
His victim, a 46-year-old man from the Litherland area suffered a serious injury to his face which required surgery.
Detective Inspector Jay Halpin said, “This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked assault which left a man with a significant facial injury.
“Blackhurst made off from the scene following the assault and after an extensive investigation was located and arrested in the Wigan area.
“He has now been sentenced to three years and nine months behind bars.
“I hope that today’s sentencing will send a message to anyone who thinks that violence is acceptable that we will pursue you and bring you to justice.
“The public rightly expect us to take action against people like this and we would ask them to continue to support us in keeping our streets safe by telling us when they know about criminal or antisocial behaviour in their neighbourhoods.”
