Man jailed for city centre robbery

A man has been jailed for two years for robbery after a woman was robbed of cash she had just withdrawn from an ATM in Liverpool city centre.

The incident happened at 8pm on 7 May at a cash machine on Brownlow Hill when the offender pushed the 22-year-old woman’s hand away as she was about to retrieve £100 and snatched the cash.

Following witness and CCTV enquiries, Gavin Carr, 26 years, of no fixed address was identified as the offender, and later charged with robbery.

On Monday, 17 June, he was convicted of robbery and sentenced to two years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.

Detective Constable Suzanne Mulholland said, “Robbery is an offence that can leave victims deeply traumatised for a long time.

“Where violence is used, it can lead to physical harm as well the lasting emotional damage of being targeted in this way.

“It can lead victims to feel unsafe where they have every right to feel safe, and we are committed to ensuring offenders are brought to justice to spare others the same pain.

“Carr had no regard for his victim, and we welcome the fact that he will now spend a period behind bars. I hope he spends that time considering the impact his actions have had

“Our message to offenders involved in this type of criminality is clear – there is no hiding place. We will use all evidence available – from CCTV, witnesses and forensics – to track you down and put you before the courts.”
