A man has been jailed following a burglary at an elderly man’s house in Crosby.
Michael Delaney, 37, of Vauxhall was sentenced to three and a half years in prison at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday 30 August.
On 4 March 2023, Delaney entered the home of an elderly man in Crosby and followed him around the house. He then demanded money for clearing gutters at the address which he claimed he had worked on earlier.
Delaney pushed down CCTV cameras in the house as he followed his victim but then left the address after not receiving any payment from the man.
Delaney was also involved in a similar burglary in March when he demanded £650 from an elderly man for reportedly clearing the gutters of an address in Crosby. The victim called police after the incident.
Detective Inspector James Halpin said, “Delaney pried on vulnerable elderly victims who had every right to feel safe and protected in their own home.
“I hope this sentence shows how seriously Merseyside Police takes such crimes and reassures residents that such criminals are now off our streets.
“Delaney actions were thoughtless and callous and our officers hope that his sentence provides him time to consider his actions and the impact it could have had on his victims.”
