Man in hospital after ‘dangerous and reckless’ city centre assault

Detectives have issued CCTV images of two men who could have information that may assist with their enquiries following an assault in Liverpool city centre on Monday 14 August.

At around 5.30pm it was reported that a man was attacked by two other males on Lord Street, near the Santander bank on the corner of North John Street, leaving the victim unconscious.

The suspects then made off on foot towards North John Street.

Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible, and detectives have issued images of two men they believe could assist with their investigation.

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said, “This was a dangerous and reckless attack that has left the victim injured, and he continues to receive treatment for head injuries.

“This incident took place at a time where it would have been busy with shoppers and people leaving work who will have seen the assault take place. If you were in the vicinity and witnessed the assault then please get in touch.

“I am also appealing to the men featured in the images, or anyone who recognises them to come forward. We believe they could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.”

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook with reference 23000752969.
