Man in 30s sets himself on fire in Rock Ferry

Firefighters were called to Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry, on Wednesday 21 April following reports of a person on fire.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and Merseyside Police also attended the incident scene which was near the Gladstone Medical Centre on Old Chester Road.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) crews were alerted at 2.39pm and one fire engine was dispatched and was on scene at 2.45pm. MFRS crews administered first aid to the man before handing over to NWAS paramedics on their arrival.

Merseyside Police were also in attendance.

The man, who was in his 30s, was handed into the care of NWAS and taken to hospital for further treatment. He suffered burns to his upper body but was said to be “conscious and alert” by an NWAS spokesperson.

He was subsequently taken to Arrowe Park Hospital. His current condition is unknown.

MFRS Firefighters left the scene at 3.23pm.
