At around 11.55am yesterday (Monday 13 September), Merseyside Police received a report of a concern for safety of a man at flats on Mount Pleasant Road, Wallasey.
It was reported that the man was threatening to harm himself.
Police negotiators attended the scene and located a man in his 40s with serious injuries.
He was taken to hospital where he later sadly died.
His next of kin have been informed.
A post-mortem will be carried out to formally establish cause of death.
The incident was referred by Merseyside Police to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as his death followed recent police contact.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said, “We would like to thank the community for their patience while we dealt with the incident.”
