Merseyside Police has charged a man with possessing a knife following an incident at Newsham Park yesterday afternoon, Friday 11 August.
At around 4.20pm, officers saw a man acting suspiciously, who then tried to flee the area on a scooter.
He was stopped by officers and following a search of his bag, under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act, a suspected lock knife was found and seized.
Sand Omar, 20, of Liverpool, has been charged with possession of a knife/sharp-pointed article in a public place. He has been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court today.
Local Policing Inspector Jon Smith said, “There has understandably been concern in our communities in relation to knife crime recently and we are determined to take these dangerous weapons off the streets.
“Thankfully, a knife has been recovered in this incident and I would urge anyone with information about knife crime to contact us. If you pass on information, we will act.”
