Man charged following knife incident in Birkenhead

A man has been charged following reports a man was carrying a knife on Derby Road in Birkenhead on Saturday (6 November).

Officers were called to Derby Road, near its junction with Whitfield Street, at around 3.25pm on Saturday 6 November.

A man was detained at the scene and a six-inch knife was located discarded on a side street, and recovered by officers attending the scene. 

Shaun Chapple, 24, of Tranmere was charged with possession of a knife/blade/sharp pointed article in a public place; using threatening/abusive/insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence; possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis); two counts of harassment/breach of a restraining order; and criminal damage.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (Monday 8 November.)
