Man assaulted in Liverpool city centre

Merseyside Police is appealing for help to identify a man detectives believe may have information that could assist enquiries into an assault in Liverpool city centre.

At 1.50am on 2 April, it was reported that a man approached the victim, a 35-year-old man, and punched him once, knocking him to the floor.

It is believed he had followed the victim from Rubber Soul bar on Mathew Street to Rainford Square, outside Hardy’s, where the assault happened.

The victim was treated in hospital for a serious neck injury, and is now recovering at home.

Merseyside Police is appealing for help to identify the man pictured, who may be able to assist the investigation.

Detective Inspector Chris Saidi said, “This was a shocking and unprovoked attack on a man who was visiting Liverpool, who had every right to go out and enjoy an evening without being subjected to this attack.

“If you recognise the man pictured, or witnessed any part of the incident, then do let us know as any information you hold could prove vital in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”
