Merseyside Police has arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder and drugs offences following a warrant in Knotty Ash yesterday (Monday 20 December).
Officers were called to Prescot Road in Old Swan just after 3.05am on 11 December to a report three bangs had been heard and a man found with a gunshot wound to his leg.
A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.
Officers executed a warrant in Liverpool on Monday where a large quantity of cannabis was recovered, and a man was detained.
A 39-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (cannabis). He has been taken into custody for questioning.
Enquiries into the shooting, which detectives are treating as targeted, are still ongoing.
Detective Inspector John Fitzgerald said, “While we are making significant progress in this investigation, we are continuing to make enquiries and believe two suspects approached the victim on an electric bike when the rear seat passenger shot the victim, and both offenders rode off.
“We have seen a reduction in firearms incidents in the past two years as a result of proactive warrants and arrests – such as this – stop checks and land searches, and we continue with all these efforts to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work.
“A key part of our ability to make those who store, carry and use firearms unwelcome here is information from the public.
“If anyone has any information about this incident, or has any information on those storing or carrying firearms, please tell us and we’ll take action to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
