Man arrested following knife incident in Birkenhead

Merseyside Police has arrested a man on suspicion of various offences following an incident in Birkenhead this afternoon, Thursday 8 April.

At around 5.15pm, calls were received of a man on Cleveland Street, reportedly in possession of a knife and making threats towards members of the public.

Armed police were deployed and detained a man nearby. A 58-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray; threats to kill; and possession of a bladed article. He has been taken to a police station for questioning by detectives.

Merseyside Police have warned that posting images and footage or commenting on these on social media channels may jeopardise the investigation.
