Man arrested following Beechwood shooting

Merseyside Police has arrested a man following an injury shooting in Birkenhead last week.

At around 10.40pm on Wednesday 11 May, a 17-year-old male presented at Arrowe Park Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

A scene was established on Fender Way, at the junction of Beechwood Drive, and evidence consistent with shots being fired was found.

Following extensive enquiries, an 18-year-old man from Noctorum was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.

He was taken into custody for questioning and has now been bailed with conditions while further enquiries continue.

The victim has since been discharged from hospital.

Anyone who witnessed this incident or with any information is asked to contact police.

Detective Inspector John Mullen said, “This arrest shows that where people seek to use dangerous weapons to cause fear and harm on our streets we will take action to put those responsible before the courts.

“While we have made one arrest, our investigation into the shooting on Fender Way last week continues, and we continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“We know how shocking this incident has been for the community in Birkenhead and we have stepped up high visibility patrols in the area.
