A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and attempted arson offences following incidents in Wirral this weekend.
At around 11.30pm yesterday, Sunday 9 October, emergency services were called to Mossley Road in Tranmere to reports of a car on fire, causing significant damage.
A further call was received on Elderwood Road a short time later of a car on fire, again causing damage. No injuries were reported.
Following enquiries, a 45-year-old man from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and attempted arson.
Community Policing Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said, “Although nobody was injured, it is only through the swift response of the fire service that the fires did not spread, potentially to nearby houses. We understand the concern that such incidents can cause in our communities and will act on all information provided to remove such risks.
“Although a man is now in custody and will be questioned, detectives would still like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything, or captured the incidents on their own dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage, all of which could be vital as this investigation continues.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact @MerPolCC or Crimestoppers anonymously with reference 22000746374.
