Detectives investigating an allegation a young woman was raped in Wirral on Wednesday 20 April have arrested a man.
The incident was reported to have happened in Birkenhead Park at around 9.40pm and following extensive enquiries, a man was arrested yesterday, Monday 25 April.
The 22-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of rape. He has been released under investigation as enquiries into the incident continue.
The young woman continues to assist police with their enquiries and is receiving the support of specially trained officers.
