Tranmere Rovers has announced that young Championship defender, Luke Robinson, has joined on loan from Wigan Athletic.
The Birkenhead-born 20-year-old, who recently extended his stay at the North West side, made his debut against Sunderland in December 2020 and has gone on to make 31 appearances in League One.
During his first year scholarship at Wigan in 2018/19, Robinson was part of the treble-winning side and continued his impressive form the following season by helping his team in a memorable FA Youth Cup run.
The left-footed defender has also featured regularly for Scotland at both U18 and U19 levels and was part of Wigan’s squad that reached the Papa John’s Trophy Semi-Final in 2021/22.
The defender is another example of in the Club’s strategy of developing players and establishing good links with clubs that can provide quality players that fit the Club’s style of play.
Upon signing Luke said, “I think this has been a long time coming and is the right time for me to go out and get first team football and as many games as I can.
“It’s my home town club, it’s what everyone dreams about being able to play for their local club so hopefully I get the chance to do that”
Micky Mellon said, “I’m delighted to bring Luke in. He’ll compliment the style of play we are trying to implement this season.
“Squad depth is massively important with the number of games we play, Luke can play both full back and centre back so to be able to have Luke gives us the resources we need within the squad.
“He was in and around the Wigan side that won League One last season so he knows the hard work and standards that needs to be put in to get promoted.
“He’s a local lad so knows what the Club is all about which is always an important part of being a Tranmere player.”
