Local world boxing champion cuts the ribbon on new Birkenhead gym

New local gym, Anytime Fitness Birkenhead, enjoyed a knockout grand opening last Thursday thanks to IBO World Boxing Champion, JJ Metcalf.

The Liverpool-born boxer cut the ribbon outside the new state-of-the-art gym, as well as signing autographs and taking photos with the gym’s members and the wider, local Birkenhead community.

One member was even given the experience of a lifetime, holding up the pads for Metcalf as he donned his boxing gloves on the gym floor.

Attendees of the opening event were also treated to giveaways, challenges and games, as well as some healthy food laid on by the gym.

“Thank you to the team for having me down today,” said Metcalf. “I had a great day and the gym is brilliant, well done to everyone involved.”

Anytime Fitness Birkenhead officially opened its doors in September and has immediately been welcomed by the local community. Having taken over the Fitness4Less gym that previously occupied the site, hundreds of members have transferred their membership as well as attracting a host of new members thanks to its state-of-the-art equipment.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to JJ for supporting our grand opening,” said Renata Holliday, co-owner of Anytime Fitness Birkenhead.

“As someone local to the area who has enjoyed so many rewards from being physically active, he was the perfect guest for us and it was great to see the local community come out for him.”
