Pilgrim’s UK, the world’s leading producer of higher welfare pork, has invested in new packing and processing technology at its factory in Bromborough to help it meet increasing customer demand.
As part of an £800,000 investment, two new inline processes have been installed at the site, a benchmark for operation excellence within the industry, and are now operational.
The new lines are speeding up the packing process and increasing capacity across some of Pilgrim’s UK’s most popular products – increasing outputs by as much as 10% each week.
Part of the investment includes a new dusting facility to season products with herbs and spices more efficiently, simultaneously coating the top and bottom of each product.
With the busy Christmas trading period on the horizon, the investment will help the site to meet the significant expected increase in customer demand, which is forecast to double during peak season.
The food and farming business is also looking to recruit up to 30 new roles as it aims to boost production.
The investment forms part of Pilgrim’s UK’s long-term growth plan for the Bromborough factory, after announcing it would be investing significantly in its development at the end of last year.
Julian Weeks, site director at Pilgrim’s UK, said, “This latest investment is part of our ongoing strategic focus on increasing operational efficiency across our UK business and innovating to deliver the most exciting new products for our customers.
“Our Bromborough factory plays a vital role in the Pilgrim’s UK network, and by continuing to invest in market-leading equipment like this, and in our over 350 strong team of dedicated people, we are ensuring that the site will continue to prosper.”
